The qeradiant.com website in it's current form has completely outgrown it's purpose. Over the past few years, GtkRadiant has changed quite a bit.
It has evolved from a mainstream editor for most up to date id games (up to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory) with an open source - but proprietary - license into an editor relicensed under GPL that is nowadays mostly used for Quake III Arena technology games and independent projects based on id Software's engine source code releases.
Likewise, the development has changed quite a bit and most of the checkins nowadays are strictly for maintenance or targetted at specific features, relevant only to one game in most cases.
There is obviously less user interest in the editor now that it used to, and the outdated website adds to the confusion. I don't see this situation likely to change anytime soon, so I plan to archive a static copy of the current website and only leave a developer oriented page here.

GtkRadiant 1.5.0 beta - build 03-02
March 2nd 04:50:33 PM 2006 - Updated by [ SPoG ]
|
To celebrate the release of GtkRadiant under the GPL, here's the latest beta build of GtkRadiant 1.5.0. There have been many improvements made since the last build more than a year ago, making this build a worthy replacement for 1.4.x. If all goes well with this build, 1.5.0 will be declared stable. Many thanks to all the contributors over the last year.

id Software releases GtkRadiant source code under GPL
February 17th 11:25:27 AM 2006 - Updated by [ TTimo ]
|
Following last summer's release of Quake III Arena source code and tools under the GPL license, id is now placing GtkRadiant and q3map2 under GPL license. We are also providing in this release a number of Quake II tools that never made it under GPL when we packaged Quake II source code.
GtkRadiant [1] is the heavily modified version of QERadiant and Q3Radiant ( id's level editors used during Quake II and Quake III Arena development ). It runs on Microsoft Windows platforms, GNU/Linux, MacOS X, and supports level editing for many id technology games [2].
A tarball of the initial release is available from our ftp server [3], and the development website [4] now holds a subversion repository with the GPL code. We expect development on the editor to continue as usual, and hope that many new developers will join us [5] :-)

GtkRadiant 1.5.0 beta - build 01-16
January 16th 11:42:03 AM 2005 - Updated by [ SPoG ]
|
At last, thanks to Tr3B, the latest build of GtkRadiant 1.5.0 beta adds realtime Doom 3 lighting preview in the camera-view. Also, for those missing the features present in 1.4.x, this build adds texture pickup/apply with middle-button and resizing of patches with the 'QE' tool. Please report any bugs.

zerowing is down

Just a quick word to tell everyone that zerowing is down. It's our general-purpose machine hosting the SVN server, the mailing lists, and storing files for the new 1.5 builds. The HD failed, it's gonna be a few days before it is back up.

GtkRadiant 1.5.0 beta (win32) with Doom 3 support
August 12th 01:47:08 PM 2004 - Updated by [ SPoG ]
|
Development of the next big revision of GtkRadiant has been slowly progressing for a while. Version 1.5.0 will be a development release aimed at power users who don't mind the occasional bug caused by the addition of new features.
This pre-release beta build is being made public to get a wider range of test feedback, which will allow us to stabilise the build for a release candidate.
There have been many changes since 1.4 - read the Change Log.
The new win32 installer uses 'Windows Installer' technology, and the main editor is packaged separately from the example map data to minimise the download size. This version can be installed in addition to previous versions of radiant and will not interfere with them.
GtkRadiant 1.5.0 supports the following games:
Doom 3
Enemy Territory
HalfLife
Heretic2
Jedi Academy
Jedi Knight 2
Quake
Quake 2
Quake 3 Arena
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force
Soldier of Fortune II
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
GtkRadiant editor download - required:
GtkRadiant 1.5.0 beta
Additional game-packs - install the packs for the games you want to map for:
Enemy Territory example maps beta
HalfLife example maps beta
Heretic2 example maps beta
Jedi Academy example maps beta
Jedi Knight II example maps beta
Quake II example maps beta
Quake III Arena example maps beta
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force example maps beta
Soldier of Fortune II example maps beta
Return to Castle Wolfenstein example maps beta
Note: the Doom 3 example maps come with the game, so there is no additional download required.
Read the user docs to get started with version 1.5.0.
The current source builds and runs on Linux, but the installer has not yet been completed. Interested Linux developers are welcome to help finish and test the installer.
The GtkRadiant 1.5.0 source is available from the subversion server at https://zerowing.idsoftware.com:666/radiant/GtkRadiant/trunk/
Developers should read the developer readme

Final 1.4.0 build is done. If you already have rc2 for Windows running, you don't need the final build. This officially marks 1.4 as our new stable release since the 1.2 series.
